Biomerics Completes Expansion of Brooklyn Park, MN Facility, Adding 100,000 sq. ft.

Biomerics, a prominent vertically integrated medical device contract manufacturer in the interventional device market, has announced the completion of a 100,000-square-foot expansion of its operations in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. This expansion brings the total facility size to 170,000 square feet and is a response to increased demand in the industry. It offers benefits to customers by consolidating multiple facilities into one location and expanding the company's engineering Centers of Excellence, including those for Complex Extrusions, Laser Processing, Advanced Catheters & Steerables, and final assembly operations.

The 100,000-square-foot expansion encompasses various specialized areas, such as 20,000 square feet for micro metals laser processing, 24,000 square feet for complex extrusion processing (including 2,000 square feet of ISO class 8 cleanroom space), and 10,000 square feet for advanced catheter processing. Additionally, the expansion provides space for employee training and office facilities.

This expansion will enable Biomerics to triple its extrusion output over the next five years, meeting the growing demand for high-quality medical extrusions and catheters. The collaboration between the extrusion and catheter teams in Brooklyn Park and Biomerics' custom proprietary polyurethane manufacturing team in Salt Lake City, Utah, combines expertise in proprietary thermoplastic materials and compounds for medical tubing. This vertical integration positions Biomerics as the sole fully integrated medical tubing manufacturer in the interventional device market and marks the establishment of Biomerics Advanced Materials & Tubing, its latest Center of Excellence.

Tom Winegar, President of Biomerics Brooklyn Park, commented on the expansion, stating that it consolidates all of Biomerics' operations in Minnesota into one facility, providing customers with a one-stop shop for their design and manufacturing needs, from micro metals processing to advanced extrusion, product development, advanced catheters, and advanced steerables. Chris Richardson, President of Biomerics Advanced Interventional Catheter, highlighted the Advanced Catheters & Steerables Center of Excellence's capabilities in engineering advanced interventional devices, emphasizing aspects such as advanced composite construction, multi-durometer shaft transitions, pushability, torquability, trackability, hydrophilic coatings, handle design, multi-lumen configurations, bending, and articulation. The expansion significantly scales these capabilities to support customer growth.
