RaySearch and MedAustron Enhance Their Collaborative Relationship

Saturday, September 30, 2023

RaySearch Laboratories AB (publ) is delighted to announce an expanded collaboration with the innovative center, EBG MedAustron GmbH, located in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. This partnership will be further strengthened through a new research agreement.

MedAustron is a pioneering center specializing in advanced cancer treatment utilizing protons and carbon ions, representing the most advanced form of radiation therapy. It is one of only six similar centers worldwide. RaySearch and MedAustron have been working together since 2012 when MedAustron became the first customer for carbon ion therapy treatment planning in RayStation®*. In June 2019, MedAustron made the decision to exclusively use RaySearch software, replacing other existing systems. To achieve this, RaySearch and MedAustron's development teams collaborated closely to tailor both RayCare®* and RayCommand®* to meet MedAustron's complex requirements. RayCommand, the treatment control system, acts as a seamless link between the treatment machine and the treatment planning and oncology information systems. In May 2022, a significant milestone was reached when MedAustron became the world's first center to employ RayStation, RayCare, and RayCommand together, collectively referred to as RayWorld, for patient treatments.

Ludwig Gold, Managing Director of MedAustron, expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, "We are delighted to have entered into a partnership agreement with RaySearch, a leading institution in advanced cancer treatment solutions. This collaboration will not only enhance our research activities at the treatment center but also facilitate new installations of the MedAustron Multi-Ion 800 product from our own products and services division. Our extensive experience as the initial global customer for the complete RayWorld software suite will contribute to the strategic international growth plans of both companies."

Markus Stock, Head of Medical Physics at MedAustron, commented, "Our strategic partnership in the fight against cancer has spanned over a decade, commencing with the implementation of proton and carbon ion treatment planning solutions within RayStation. Over a year ago, we successfully demonstrated our joint development efforts by implementing RayCommand and RayCare in the complex environment of our Multi-Ion treatment center. Since then, we have closely collaborated on further system optimizations and eagerly anticipate contributing to new initiatives in the field of particle therapy."

Johan Löf, founder and CEO of RaySearch, expressed his satisfaction, saying, "MedAustron is a true pioneer in the ion therapy field, and we have had the pleasure and honor of having them as a close partner for more than a decade. I am delighted that our successful collaboration is deepening, allowing RaySearch to continue supporting MedAustron in their endeavors, both in Austria and their international expansion."

Björn Hårdemark, Deputy CEO of RaySearch, added, "Our partnership with MedAustron remains a source of inspiration. They conduct some of the most advanced cancer treatments known to humanity, and it is truly rewarding to witness our software enabling this level of sophistication."
