Stryker Unveils Commercial Launch of Q Guidance System and Cranial Guidance Software

Wednesday, July 12, 2023

Stryker, a global leader in medical technology, has announced the commercial launch of its Q Guidance System integrated with Cranial Guidance Software. This advanced system provides neurosurgeons with enhanced surgical planning and guidance capabilities, specifically focusing on biopsies and shunt placements. The innovative technology has the potential to become the new standard of care, improving accuracy and efficiency in the operating room.

The Q Guidance System with Cranial Guidance Software utilizes a combination of active and passive tracking technology to offer groundbreaking features, including:

  1. Proprietary camera: Stryker's latest 4th generation FP8000 camera offers increased speed compared to other products on the market.
  2. Dual PC system: The system consists of two PCs, one dedicated to running the operating system's applications and the other providing real-time patient data.
  3. Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and tractography: Utilizing anisotropic diffusion, DTI estimates the brain's axonal organization and reconstructs it in 3D.
  4. Precision Targeting System: This feature enables navigated biopsy of cranial tissue by utilizing comprehensive guidance data and imaging to pre-plan the entry point.
  5. Electromagnetic catheter placement: The system allows for pinless shunt procedures.

Early product surveillance of the Q Guidance System with Cranial Guidance Software was conducted at six sites in May 2023. Positive feedback has been received from healthcare professionals, with praise for the new camera technology and user-friendly interface. The system's intuitive views, such as 3D targeting and the skull stripping feature, have been particularly appreciated by staff.
