Centra Invests $5 Million to Expand Emergency Department
Introduction:
Centra has announced a $5 million investment to expand and renovate the Emergency Department at Centra Southside Community Hospital (CSCH). This development aims to enhance emergency care services for patients across the hospital’s eight-county service area, with work set to begin by the end of the year and completion expected by summer 2026.
Features:
The project includes over 2,700 square feet of new and upgraded space. It is designed to improve access to behavioural health services, reduce patient wait times, and enhance the overall experience for both patients and families.
Once completed, the Emergency Department will feature a total of 18 treatment bays. This includes five new rooms specifically designed to support the needs of behavioural health patients, ensuring more appropriate and private care.
In addition, the department will include two trauma bays for patients requiring a higher level of emergency care, as well as spacious fast-track rooms to treat patients with less urgent needs more quickly.
A newly added family consultation room will offer greater privacy for discussions between medical teams and families during critical moments.
The expansion is expected to be completed by summer 2026.
