Stevenson Memorial Hospital Begins its Expansion with the Investment of $174 Million
Introduction
Construction has officially begun on a major expansion project at Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) in partnership with the Government of Ontario, Infrastructure Ontario and contractor Pomerleau. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by key officials, including Doug Ford and Sylvia Jones, along with local leaders and project partners.
Features
The upgraded facility is designed to meet increasing healthcare demands and improve patient experience.
It will increase patient bed capacity by 20 per cent and offer all single-occupancy rooms to ensure comfort and privacy.
The hospital will be equipped with modern medical technology and updated equipment to support high-quality care.
The expansion also includes a larger Diagnostic Imaging Department, which will feature MRI services at SMH for the first time.
In addition, the project provides improved spaces for staff, physicians, and patient care services.
Construction is now underway and is scheduled for completion by late 2028.
