AHN invests $6.2 million to Expand Services at Allegheny Valley and Forbes Hospitals to Enhance Patient Care
Introduction:
Allegheny Health Network (AHN) has announced a $6.2 million strategic investment to expand services and improve patient experiences at AHN Allegheny Valley Hospital (AVH) in Natrona Heights and AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville. This initiative will enhance inpatient rehabilitation services at AVH and increase medical-surgical capacity at Forbes, addressing rising demand across AHN’s eastern service area.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Expansion at AVH:
AVH will become AHN’s Center of Excellence for inpatient rehabilitation.
A new, 29-bed consolidated rehab unit will be developed, the unit will incorporate advanced rehab equipment and technology, and AVH’s Progressive Care Unit (PCU) will relocate to its former first-floor location, adjacent to the ICU.
Medical-Surgical Bed Expansion at Forbes Hospital:
Forbes will convert its former inpatient rehab space into 20 new med-surg beds.
Aimed at easing emergency department congestion and enhancing patient flow.
Supports acute and chronic care for non-ICU patients.
The women’s health suite at Forbes will also be modernized to accommodate high patient volume.
Construction begins in July 2025; completion is expected by the end of 2025.
