Allegheny Health Network Plans $232M Hospital to Replace Canonsburg Facility in Washington County

Introduction:

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Highmark Health plan to construct a new full-service hospital in Washington County. The facility aims to replace Canonsburg Hospital, offering improved and comprehensive healthcare services.

Features:

The approximately 300,000-square-foot hospital will be built on AHN Canonsburg’s existing Medical Boulevard campus in North Strabane.

The new hospital will consist of all-private rooms and have a capacity of 50-100 beds.

It will provide a range of advanced clinical services, including primary, emergency, and critical care, as well as state-of-the-art surgical capabilities.

Specialized care programs will encompass advanced cardiac, orthopedic, neurosurgical care, and multi-disciplinary programs like women’s health.

The project also includes the development of a clinical campus to accommodate future facilities, such as a medical office building and a potential cancer center.

The new AHN Canonsburg Hospital is expected to generate hundreds of permanent healthcare jobs upon full operation.

Additionally, the construction phase will create hundreds of temporary jobs, contributing to the local economy.

The facility's clinical programs and medical staff will align with AHN’s leading Institutes across various disciplines, expanding the reach of the network’s nationally recognized clinical expertise.

Construction is scheduled to commence in 2024, pending necessary approvals, with an anticipated opening in 2027.
