City of Health Project Advances with US$846 million (€722.6 million) Investment

Introduction

Construction of the City of Health and Research in Sesto San Giovanni, Italy, is progressing with an additional €300 million investment approved through the second Supplementary Act of the Programme Agreement. The additional funding brings the project’s total investment to €722.6 million. The future hospital complex is being developed on the former Falck industrial site and will bring together the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute and the National Cancer Institute.

Features

The City of Health and Research will cover approximately 130,000 square metres and is planned to provide around 700 beds.

The complex will include 119 outpatient clinics, 42 laboratories, 19 operating rooms and 10 interventional rooms, supporting a broad range of specialist healthcare services.

The development will also feature advanced research facilities focused on neuroscience and oncology, strengthening the integration of clinical care and biomedical research.

The project is being supported by the Lombardy Region, the City of Sesto San Giovanni, the two healthcare institutes and ARIA, with the Ministry of Health also involved in the programme agreement.

The project expected to create a major healthcare and research hub in the Lombardy region.
