Construction Begins on Surgical Hub at Friarage Hospital in USA

Introduction:

Integrated Health Projects (IHP), a partnership between VINCI Building and Sir Robert McAlpine, has commenced the construction of the US$38.8 million surgical hub at Friarage Hospital in Northallerton, USA.

Features:

The new state-of-the-art facility will replace the hospital's outdated operating rooms with a modern surgical hub. It will consist of six main operating rooms, two minor operating rooms, and a surgical admission and day center.

Following the successful completion of the Endoscopy and Urology Diagnostic Hub at Friarage Hospital, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Surgical Hub project is now underway as part of the ongoing activities within the Procure 22 Framework. The project was successfully executed last year.

To create the Surgical Hub, extensive renovations were carried out on the first floor, involving the stripping down of the existing Mental Health Ward to the building's outer shell. A new fire lid was installed throughout the area, accompanied by a structural steel grillage below to support the new services and ceilings. The hub encompasses three surgery rooms, a 12-bed recovery ward, admission, examination, and recovery rooms, as well as a decontamination area designed for equipment washing and sterilization.

The completion and official opening of the Surgical Hub are expected in 2025.
