East Alabama Health Breaks Ground on $32.5M ICU Expansion

Introduction:

East Alabama Health announce plans to construct three additional floors atop the West Pavilion at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) to cater to the needs of a rapidly growing region.

Features:

The expansion will incorporate 30 critical care beds and provisions for future growth, addressing the increasing demand for healthcare services in the area.

The new floors will be built on top of the existing two-story structure of the West Pavilion, resulting in a total of five floors upon completion.

The expansion will provide a total of 67,395 square feet of additional space, distributed across three floors: a mechanical space on the third floor, room for future growth on the fourth floor, and the addition of 30 new beds on the fifth floor.

The fifth floor will feature a 20-bed ICU with a satellite pharmacy, as well as a 10-bed unit that can serve both step-down and intensive-care patients interchangeably.

Currently, the first floor of the West Pavilion houses two cardiovascular operating rooms, 10 CVICU rooms, and the Cardiac Rehab department, while the second floor comprises 20 ICU beds and a satellite pharmacy.

The expansion project has already received approval from the Certificate of Need Review Board.

Construction is scheduled to commence in summer 2024, with an anticipated completion date of late fall 2025.

The first patients are expected to be admitted in early 2026.
