Freeman Health System Invests $168 Million to Construct New Southeast Kansas Hospital

Introduction:

Freeman Health System has officially begun construction on its new hospital in Southeast Kansas. With an investment of $168 million, the project marks a major milestone for both Freeman Health System and the Southeast Kansas community.

Features:

The new facility will be a 170,000-square-foot, 50-bed hospital aimed at addressing the growing healthcare needs of the region. HMN Architects, based in Overland Park, Kansas, has been appointed to design the hospital.

The construction will be carried out in three phases over an estimated period of 24 to 34 months. These phases include the development of the site infrastructure, building of a two-storey Ambulatory Surgery Center with space for physician offices, and finally, the construction of the main hospital building.

The hospital is expected to offer a wide range of services, including emergency care, cardiac care with a catheterisation lab, intensive care, maternity and paediatric services, outpatient and inpatient surgery, oncology, pulmonary care, and radiology.

Once operational, the new hospital is expected to generate between 500 and 1,000 new jobs. Additionally, a new 24/7 emergency department and 10-bed acute care facility in Fort Scott is set to open in late 2027.
