Introduction:
Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network (AHN) officials have emphasized their dedication to the Living Health model by revealing plans for substantial investments in the network.
Features:
Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network (AHN) have announced a $1 billion, 10-year transformation plan for Allegheny General Hospital (AGH), AHN’s flagship academic medical center.
Key projects include the construction of a new Cardiovascular Tower at Sandusky Street and East North Avenue, adjacent to the AGH Academic Cancer Center.
The tower will feature over 100 private inpatient beds, cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, stress echocardiography, wound care, nuclear medicine procedural spaces, a dedicated cardiovascular intensive care unit, multi-disciplinary cardiovascular clinics, physician offices, and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation.
Its ground floor will house an expanded and upgraded emergency department, with large inpatient rooms offering ample space for visitors, natural light, and advanced digital capabilities for virtual consultations.
Additionally, the project includes the renovation and modernization of the hospital’s operating rooms, the transition to all-private inpatient rooms, upgrades to lobbies and common spaces, and the future construction of a new medical office building.
The Project Set to begin in early 2025 and expected to complete by 2030.
The AHN Neuroscience Institute Hub will be housed in the five-story former cancer center at Hemlock and James Streets, providing comprehensive diagnostic, medical, and surgical care for neurological diseases.
The development plan will be executed in phases, starting with the expansion of emergency and trauma services, and is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs while enhancing the hospital's ability to provide advanced medical care.
