Houston County Health Care Authority Approves $50 Million Expansion for Southeast Health Medical Center
Introduction:
The Houston County Health Care Authority has given the green light to a big $50 million expansion for Southeast Health Medical Center to help meet the rising need for emergency medical services.
Features:
This project, which focuses on the Emergency Department (ED), will be carried out in four phases at an estimated cost of just over $25 million. The plan includes:
- Adding 21,300 square feet to the ED and renovating 16,700 existing square feet.
- Increasing the number of treatment spaces from 32 to 66, allowing the facility to handle up to 75,000 visits annually.
- Moving the Southeast Medicine Shop to a more accessible location inside the lobby.
- Installing a CT scanner and a satellite laboratory to enhance patient flow and efficiency.
- Creating a safe treatment area for behavioral health patients.
- Expanding the waiting area to accommodate 100 patients and guests.
In addition to the ED improvements, the project will also add two patient floors above the ED.
This involves constructing a multi-story tower with 52 new inpatient hospital beds, costing more than $24.5 million.
Southeast Health will submit a Certificate of Need (CON) application to the state healthcare review board, which will take about 120 days for review. Once approved, construction is expected to be completed by fall 2027.
