London’s Tolworth Hospital Invests £110 Million for its Redevelopment

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust has officially begun the £110 million redevelopment of Tolworth Hospital. A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held in Kingston, marking a key milestone in the Trust’s ongoing efforts to transform mental health services across the region.

The redevelopment at Tolworth will feature a new hospital building with five modern wards. These will accommodate services relocating from older facilities at Springfield Hospital. 

The project also includes wider improvements to the hospital grounds, with updated landscaping, better access routes, a new central plaza, and a cafe. These enhancements aim to improve public access, reduce the stigma around mental health, and encourage greater community involvement.

By late 2027, the Tolworth site will house seven acute, older persons and specialist wards, as well as a variety of outpatient services—supporting a more balanced distribution of care across the Trust’s main sites.
