National Park Medical Center to Build $2.9 Million Adult Behavioral Health Unit
Introduction
National Park Medical Center (NPMC) has announced plans to construct a new 16-bed adult behavioral health unit (BHU) within the hospital. The project addresses the need for inpatient psychiatric services following the recent closure of local provider Levi Hospital and is supported by a $2.9 million investment from NPMC and a donation from the Levi Community Foundation.
Features
The new unit will expand NPMC’s inpatient behavioural health capacity, doubling current services and complementing the existing 16-bed geriatric unit for patients aged 55 and older.
Once completed, NPMC will be the only facility within a 40-mile radius offering inpatient behavioural health care for adults aged 18 to 54, providing treatment closer to home with coordinated follow-up care.
The Levi Community Foundation is contributing equipment, furnishings, supplies, and monitoring systems from the former Levi Hospital to support the new unit.
The project will be completed in two phases, ensuring patients benefit from modern facilities and seamless continuity of care.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with the goal of opening the new adult BHU later the same year, delivering essential mental health services to the Hot Springs community.
