Ontario Advances Bowmanville Hospital Expansion with $20 Million Redevelopment Planning
Introduction
The Ontario government has taken a key step in expanding healthcare services in Durham Region by issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of Lakeridge Health’s Bowmanville Hospital.
The project, supported by a provincial investment of over $20 million for planning and design, is one of the largest redevelopments at Lakeridge Health and forms part of Ontario’s plan to invest in more than 50 major hospital projects across the province over the next decade.
Features
The redevelopment will more than double the hospital’s capacity by adding up to 32 new beds and introducing state-of-the-art facilities for inpatient and ambulatory care, as well as the emergency department.
The upgraded hospital will include modern and comfortable private and bariatric rooms, a new rooftop helipad for rapid emergency access, expanded critical and intensive care services, and advanced facilities such as an ambulatory care centre and haemodialysis stations.
These improvements are designed to enhance patient care, reduce wait times, and provide families in Durham Region with high-quality healthcare services.
The redevelopment is expected to be completed by 2026.
