Royal Hobart Hospital Launches $130 Million Emergency Department Expansion
Introduction:
Royal Hobart Hospital Redevelopment Stage 2, with a Development Application for the Main Works of the Emergency Department (ED) Expansion now submitted to the City of Hobart. This follows the finalisation of the concept design for the $130 million project, which will see the ED significantly upgraded to support better patient care and service delivery.
Features:
The expansion will provide a modern ED spread across three levels, increasing the number of treatment points to 120. This is aimed at improving patient flow, reducing wait times, and enhancing the overall quality of care.
The new design also includes CT and X-ray facilities, two ultrasound rooms, a dedicated paediatric area, and separate waiting zones for children and individuals facing mental health challenges.
The expansion is set to be opened by 2027.
