UF Health Shands Children's Hospital Commences $30 Million Renovation to Enhance Pediatric Care Facilities
Introduction:
UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital has launched a $30 million renovation project to upgrade pediatric patient rooms and medical-surgical areas.
Feature:
The project involves a complete overhaul of units 44 and 45, converting them into private rooms with ensuite restrooms and modernized examination areas.
Key features of the renovation include:
- New room furnishings with updated lighting, finishes, and smart TVs
- Sleeper sofas and TVs in all patient rooms
- Family rooms for siblings and loved ones, including spaces for private meetings with physicians
- A toddler playroom with therapeutic activities
- A multipurpose room for teenagers and other children
- Updated lobbies on each unit
- Expanded collaborative spaces for healthcare providers
- New nursing alcoves for patient monitoring
Improved workspaces for staff, including call rooms, breakrooms, and locker rooms. The renovation is expected to be completed within two years, with ongoing staff and nursing ratios and unchanged physician referrals.
The project is funded through a combination of hospital budget, state funds, and private donations, including over $4 million from Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
