University of Florida and UF Health Invest $1B in Expanding Healthcare at Durbin Park

Introduction:

University of Florida and UF Health leaders have initiated the groundbreaking ceremony at UF Health Durbin Park, a 42.5-acre health and wellness campus.

Features:

Phase one of the project will introduce a 150-bed hospital specializing in orthopaedics, neurosurgery, cardiovascular medicine, and women's services.

Additionally, the initial phase will include a multidisciplinary medical office building and an ambulatory surgery center.

The development is projected to generate 2,000 new jobs initially and contribute to a total of 12,000 jobs in St. Johns and Jacksonville over time.

This initiative represents a substantial investment in one of Florida's rapidly growing regions, encompassing financial, human, and intellectual resources.

The project will provide advanced healthcare services, research opportunities, and training programs to address the evolving needs of the region in biomedical technology.

Key areas of focus include simulation, artificial intelligence in healthcare, patient safety, and fintech.

The ambulatory surgery center will complement services, particularly in orthopaedics, offering a comprehensive range of care options.

The 395,000-square-foot hospital, featuring acute, intensive, and emergency care facilities, is slated to admit its first patient by late 2025.
