3D Systems' PEEK Cranial Implants Receive FDA Breakthrough Clearance for World-First 3D-Printed Device

3D Systems has announced a groundbreaking development: FDA clearance for its VSP® PEEK Cranial Implant, a personalized, 3D-printed solution for cranial implants. This innovative product offers a complete FDA-cleared workflow, utilizing advanced software, specialized 3D printing technology, and high-quality materials.

Using additive manufacturing, it produces patient-specific cranial implants with significantly less material than traditional methods. The 3D Systems EXT 220 MED 3D printer, combined with Evonik VESTAKEEP® i4 3DF PEEK, ensures a cleanroom-based production process ideal for medical environments.

Surgeons in Europe have successfully used this technology in cranioplasties, with plans to introduce it to the U.S.
The implants' mechanical properties closely resemble human bone, and the material's biocompatibility and stability make it ideal for medical use.

Additionally, its radiolucency ensures minimal interference with medical imaging. This milestone paves the way for further innovations in medical device manufacturing, with potential applications beyond cranial implants, including spine interbody fusion implants and trauma fixation solutions.

This clearance not only expands 3D Systems' product portfolio but also signals a broader trend toward advanced medical solutions. The VSP® PEEK Cranial Implant represents a leap forward in medical technology, promising enhanced patient care and improved surgical outcomes through personalized, additive manufacturing solutions.
