Adona Medical Introduces First Human Trial of Its Novel Interatrial Shunt for Heart Failure Patients

Adona Medical focused on advancing heart failure treatments, has successfully carried out the first human use of its novel interatrial shunt device.

The starting procedures were performed at Tbilisi Heart and Vascular Clinic in Georgia, with support from US-based heart failure experts.

The Adona device features a unique shunt with a flow channel that can be adjusted in size post-implantation, using a proprietary catheter.

This allows for a more tailored treatment approach compared to existing shunt technologies, which have a fixed flow passage. Additionally, the device incorporates integrated sensors to monitor pressure levels in both the left and right atria multiple times a day, offering doctors a detailed understanding of a patient’s hemodynamic status without requiring active patient involvement.

This real-time data could help optimise medical management and enhance shunt therapy.

The successful completion of the initial clinical cases marks a significant step forward in Adona Medical’s efforts to improve heart failure management. Now it is closer to validating the potential benefits of its technology for patients living with heart failure.
