Cognixion Introduces Breakthrough Ar Device For Assistive Communication

Cognixion® has recently unveiled its groundbreaking flagship device, the Cognixion ONE™ Axon. This innovative device integrates AI, Augmented Reality, and Assistive Technology to create a one-of-a-kind assisted reality experience.

This device aims to improve the communication and interaction abilities of individuals with severe motor impairments, empowering them to effectively and independently engage with their environment.

The device has been granted breakthrough status by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

This device employs electroencephalogram (EEG) technology to establish a noninvasive brain-computer interface (BCI). It enables individuals with advanced disease progression to communicate their responses using their thoughts and mental attention through a wearable augmented reality headset.

By incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as GPT large language models into its functionality, the device aims to seamlessly integrate contextual predictions. Its purpose is to swiftly assist users in expressing their communication intentions and achieving desired outcomes. It offers prompt suggestions that can be readily selected and communicated audibly and visually through the front visor, serving as a valuable communication aid.

The device is specifically tailored to aid individuals with neurodegenerative conditions like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease, as well as Motor Neuron Disease (MND). It is also designed to support individuals with acquired conditions such as traumatic injuries and cerebral palsy, which lead to significant motor impairments.

Currently, there is no approved device available that enables fully paralyzed or locked-in patients to communicate when the conventional method of eye-tracking becomes ineffective due to the decline in ocular motor function.
