Europe’s First CE-Marked uRT-linac 506c Brings Novel Adaptive Radiotherapy Technology to Italy
UPMC Italy and United Imaging Healthcare Europe have entered into a partnership to install the first CE-marked uRT-linac 506c system in Europe.
The technology will be introduced in Italy, expanding access to advanced personalised radiotherapy for cancer patients. The project is also supported by Fora, a provider of diagnostic and therapy services with more than five decades of experience in the healthcare sector.
The uRT-linac 506c combines a diagnostic-quality CT scanner and a linear accelerator within a single platform. This integrated design enables clinicians to perform imaging and treatment within the same workflow, improving efficiency and supporting more precise treatment delivery.
A key feature of the system is its ability to acquire high-definition CT images immediately before each radiotherapy session.
These images allow clinicians to monitor anatomical and tumour changes and adjust treatment plans when necessary. This adaptive approach supports more personalised cancer care while helping to reduce overall treatment workflow times.
The platform also incorporates artificial intelligence to support several stages of the radiotherapy process. These capabilities include automated contouring of organs and target areas, treatment planning, and treatment delivery.
The partnership combines United Imaging Healthcare’s radiotherapy technology with UPMC Italy’s clinical expertise.
Both organisations aim to improve access to precision radiotherapy and support better treatment outcomes for cancer patients in Italy and across Europe.
