GE Healthcare Enhances PET/MR Capabilities with AIR Technologies

GE Healthcare is introducing its latest innovation, the SIGNA PET/MR AIR system, at the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) 2023 annual meeting. This advanced system combines state-of-the-art AIR technologies to enhance diagnostic precision, simplify treatment evaluation, and improve patient comfort.

The integration of unique AIR technologies in SIGNA PET/MR AIR caters to the evolving demands of patients with high-prevalence diseases like prostate cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. These technologies include AIR Coils, which improve patient comfort, AIR Recon DL, which enhances MR image quality and reduces scan time, and MotionFree Brain, which addresses motion-related PET image degradation.

Prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment have seen significant advancements with the introduction of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-targeted radiotracers for imaging diagnostics and theranostics. By combining PSMA-targeted PET radiotracers with GE Healthcare's high sensitivity PET and the anatomical precision of MRI in SIGNA PET/MR AIR, precise diagnosis, staging/re-staging of prostate cancer, and patient selection for PSMA-targeted radioligand therapy can be achieved.

SIGNA PET/MR AIR offers deep learning-based MR image reconstruction with AIR Recon DL, resulting in improved image quality and up to 50% reduction in scan time. Additionally, the AIR Coil technology conforms effortlessly to the human body, enhancing the quality of MR imaging while providing patient comfort. This technology offers a thinner, lighter solution that enables more accurate PET quantitation compared to traditional rigid RF coils.

With the recent approval of drugs with disease-modifying potential, the need for combined MR and PET imaging of patients has increased. SIGNA PET/MR AIR incorporates the industry's most sensitive Time-of-Flight (ToF) PET detector in a PET/MR system, allowing clinicians to achieve early diagnosis, gain insights into disease progression, and detect adverse effects in a single scan.

To overcome the challenge of patient movement during imaging exams, SIGNA PET/MR AIR features MotionFree Brain PET, a breakthrough solution that manages motion without external tracking devices. This ensures consistent image quality, potentially enabling faster and more accurate diagnoses while reducing the need for repeat scans.

The introduction of the SIGNA PET/MR AIR system demonstrates GE Healthcare's commitment to empowering healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional care and improve patient outcomes in the constantly evolving landscape of medical imaging.
