Hyperfine Brings First-of-its-Kind Portable MRI Technology to AIIMS New Delhi

Hyperfine, Inc. and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, have announced the clinical deployment of the Swoop® portable MRI system, making AIIMS the first hospital in India to use bedside MRI technology for routine patient care.

The introduction marks a significant step forward in improving access to neurological imaging across the country.

The AI-powered Swoop® system enables brain imaging directly at the patient's bedside, eliminating the need to transport critically ill patients to conventional MRI facilities.
The system is being used at AIIMS New Delhi’s Centre for Neurological Conditions under the Department of Neuroimaging and Interventional Neuroradiology.

Designed for use in intensive care units, stroke centres, trauma wards, neonatal units and emergency departments, the portable MRI system helps clinicians obtain brain images quickly and support faster diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Unlike traditional MRI systems, it does not require a dedicated imaging room, specialised infrastructure or patient transfer.

The technology supports a wide range of clinical applications, including stroke assessment, traumatic brain injury evaluation, neurological monitoring in intensive care, paediatric brain imaging and post-operative neurosurgical care.

The deployment also establishes a platform for clinical research at AIIMS. Researchers plan to generate real-world evidence, publish findings and contribute to the growing global understanding of point-of-care brain imaging.

The initiative is expected to support wider adoption of portable MRI technology across healthcare facilities in India.
