HAI Solutions has developed the QIKcap Disinfection Device™, a handheld UV-C tool designed to irradiate the surface of intravenous connectors and access points, effectively preventing microbial ingress. The device works in conjunction with the QIKcap™, a specialized luer cap incorporating Intellego's proprietary ink. When exposed to the UV-C handheld device, the QIKcap changes color from yellow to pink, indicating that a sufficient dose of germicidal energy has been delivered within a second.
The development of the QIKcap Disinfection Device and QIKcap addresses the persistent risks of bloodstream infections (BSI) and hospital-onset bacteremia (HOB), characterized by positive blood cultures obtained 48 hours after admission.
