Intellego Technologies And Hai Solutions Join Forces For Novel Application Of Ultraviolet Photochromic Ink In Intravenous Port Disinfection Technology, Reducing Contamination Risks

Intellego Technologies and HAI Solutions have formed a strategic partnership to improve the quality and safety of intravenous (IV) vascular access. This collaboration combines Intellego's patented ultraviolet sensitive ink with HAI Solutions' QIKcap™ technology, aiming to provide visible and reliable IV port protection and ensure proper disinfection of needle-free connectors.

HAI Solutions has developed the QIKcap Disinfection Device™, a handheld UV-C tool designed to irradiate the surface of intravenous connectors and access points, effectively preventing microbial ingress. The device works in conjunction with the QIKcap™, a specialized luer cap incorporating Intellego's proprietary ink. When exposed to the UV-C handheld device, the QIKcap changes color from yellow to pink, indicating that a sufficient dose of germicidal energy has been delivered within a second.

The development of the QIKcap Disinfection Device and QIKcap addresses the persistent risks of bloodstream infections (BSI) and hospital-onset bacteremia (HOB), characterized by positive blood cultures obtained 48 hours after admission. Recent data from The Leapfrog Group's 2023 Hospital Safety Grade highlighted a significant increase in healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in U.S. hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic, with central line bloodstream infections (CLABSI), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) contributing to prolonged hospital stays, higher costs, and mortality rates.

Intellego Technologies' photochromic ink, known for its application in UVC Dosimeters, is being utilized as an ingredient in a medical device for the first time. UVC Dosimeters are widely trusted single-use UV indicator cards, utilized by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), academic researchers, and healthcare facilities globally. These cards offer a visible measurement of germicidal ultraviolet energy delivered to surfaces.

The partnership with HAI Solutions reflects their commitment to life-saving technologies and the promotion of safety, efficacy, and efficiency in ultraviolet disinfection applications. Both companies are optimistic about the positive outcomes and mutual benefits resulting from this collaboration.
