Dr. James Rothman
Alveo Technologies, Inc. (Alveo), a leading innovator in molecular sensing and diagnostics powered by its proprietary IntelliSense™ technology, appointed Dr. James Rothman, Nobel Laureate and distinguished scientist, to its Board of Directors.
Dr. Rothman was awarded the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his groundbreaking discoveries in the mechanisms regulating vesicle traffic - a fundamental transport system within cells. His unparalleled expertise in cellular biology and extensive experience across academia and industry will support Alveo’s mission to scale and expand the capabilities of its cutting-edge molecular diagnostics platform.
Over the course of his illustrious career, Dr. Rothman has held esteemed positions at top institutions, including Columbia University’s Sulzberger Genome Center, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford University, and Princeton University.
He currently serves as the Sterling Professor of Cell Biology at Yale University and is the founding director of Yale’s Nanobiology Institute.
Dr. Rothman also brings deep industry insight, having previously served as Chief Scientist at GE Healthcare and as a strategic advisor to leading pharmaceutical companies such as Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, and Eli Lilly.
A Yale graduate with a bachelor’s in physics, Dr. Rothman earned his PhD in Biological Chemistry from Harvard University and completed his postdoctoral work at MIT. His numerous accolades include the Lasker Basic Science Award, Kavli Prize in Neuroscience, King Faisal International Prize, and the Gairdner Foundation International Award, among others. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
