Carol Burns
Signum Surgical, a medical technology innovator focused on treating colorectal diseases, has appointed Carol Burns as Chief Executive Officer.
Burns’ appointment marks a significant milestone for the company as it begins commercial rollout of its flagship device, BioHealx® - the first-of-its-kind solution for treating anal fistula, a chronic and often debilitating condition affecting one in every 5,000 people globally.
This advancement follows the U.S. FDA De Novo clearance of BioHealx in 2024. The bioabsorbable implant is designed to close anal fistulas by promoting tissue apposition for primary healing, aiming to reduce repeat procedures and minimize incontinence risk.
Bringing more than 25 years of leadership in the medical device industry, Burns has a strong track record of building and commercializing breakthrough therapies. She previously co-founded and served as CEO of Cagent Vascular and Intact Vascular, and held executive roles at Embrella Cardiovascular (acquired by Edwards Lifesciences), Animas (acquired by Johnson & Johnson), Ventrica (acquired by Medtronic), and Guidant Corporation.
Burns’ extensive experience in launching and scaling novel medical technologies positions her to lead Signum Surgical through its next phase of growth and innovation.
